About 4,000 years ago, someone accidentally mixed tin with copper, producing bronze for the first time. Bronze was the most revolutionary invention of the time. This quickly became a significant advantage in the war. With bronze, the Egyptian pharaoh was unbeatable. Another bronze-equipped army was the only way to stop the Egyptian army. As other armies armed themselves with bronze weapons, the high demand for tin and copper brought a shortage of elements. With the dire need to protect oneself from others, innovation eventually brought about the Iron Age.
Forging became the most important skill of the Iron Age, but
it was not easy. To raise the metal to extreme temperatures, the heat was
accomplished simply by pushing it into the charcoal. It was a manufacturing
secret! For decades, iron was the major competitive advantage. Even the most
powerful Bronze Age armies had no chance of victory when they clashed with
soldiers armed with lighter and stronger iron weapons. These were the first
disruptive technologies.
Disruption brings about a massive change in power. As a
result, the empire rose and others fell. Knowledge became the most valuable
asset in the Iron Age. Newer and more powerful technologies were the key differentiator.
The more our world progresses, the more important knowledge becomes.
Today, we are in the digital age. There are major shifts in electricity in every industry around the world. So, why the study is so important in life! How important it is: In the agricultural age, wealth originated from nature. In the industrial age, money originated from machines. In the digital age, wealth originates from information and knowledge.
And, I
believe that ignorance will lead to poverty in the coming decades.
